A Letter From the Founder

When Did My Closet Get So Boring?

Practical doesn't have to mean plain. Here is what I look for in a cardigan, and why the right one can change an ordinary outfit.

INTERNAL: Approve the first-person narrative before presenting it as an authentic founder letter.

That small moment when your outfit feels like you.

Here's something I noticed a while ago. Open almost any wardrobe, and the sensible things have quietly taken over.

Gray sweaters. Black pants. A navy cardigan that goes with everything, which is exactly why it gets worn.

None of it is wrong. But one morning I looked at what I'd put on, and nothing in the outfit said anything about me.

It happens slowly. You buy the thing that goes with everything because the last few didn't. You pick the color that won't show anything. You stop reaching for the print that caught your eye, because the last one itched, or pulled across the arms, or hung like a tent.

So the sensible choice becomes the only choice, and sometimes your outfits stop sounding like you. If your closet still feels exactly like you, I'm glad. If the sensible choices have started to crowd everything else out, read on.

I don't think you need a new wardrobe to change that. You don't need to dress like anyone else, either. You need one piece that does a little of the talking.

A cardigan is the easiest place to start. It's the layer you put on last, and it can change everything above your jeans without asking you to rethink what's underneath.

But only if it's comfortable enough to forget about. That's where an otherwise lovely cardigan can let you down, and it's why those practical details matter too.

There are six things I look for. Each one is really about how you'll feel wearing it. The first is the pattern.

A little pattern goes a long way

One layer can give an everyday outfit more character.

Take the outfit you wear most. Dark jeans, a plain white top, flat sandals. It's comfortable, it's clean, and it's easy. It's also the outfit you could have worn any day of the last five years.

Now change one thing. Over the white top goes a cardigan with flowers on it, the sort of print you'd have stopped for in a shop window. The jeans haven't changed. The top hasn't changed. But you glance in the mirror on your way out and the whole outfit has a point of view.

That's what a pattern is for. It doesn't change you. It lets what you're wearing catch up with who you are.

That only lasts if the cardigan is comfortable enough to keep on.

If it itches, nothing else matters

You know the signs. The collar you keep touching. The sleeve you push up, then push up again. The moment you get back to the car and take it off, with a small sigh of relief.

A sweater that does that has failed, however lovely it looked on the hanger.

Now think about the afternoon you'd actually like: the farmers' market, a stop for coffee, a long visit with your sister. At some point you realize you haven't thought about your clothes once. That's all comfort really is. It's your clothes staying out of the way.

Room in the sleeves, shape where it counts

A cardigan earns its place when you can wear it over your usual top, reach for your bag and settle into a chair without having to rearrange everything.

That's the difference between an outfit that looks finished and one you actually enjoy wearing. You want both: a shape you're pleased with, and enough ease to carry on with your day.

Start with the layer you already like underneath. The cardigan should fit into that routine, not ask you to change it.

The ten-second outfit

Keep the familiar basics. Add the cardigan.

Here's the whole routine. Your favorite jeans and a simple white top. That's the before.

The after is the same outfit with a cardigan over it. Button it on a cool morning, leave it open when it warms up.

There's no new pair of jeans to buy, no new tops to match, no pile on the bed. You're out the door for the pharmacy, the post office and a quick coffee, already dressed the way you like.

The best part of a third piece is how little it asks of you.

"Where did you get that?"

A small moment that brightens the day.

Imagine meeting an old friend for lunch, the kind you've known for thirty years and still run out of time with.

She's already at the table when you arrive. You sit down, put your bag on the chair beside you, and she stops mid-sentence.

"Oh, that's pretty. Where did you find it?"

You glance down, almost as if you'd forgotten. You tell her, a little pleased, a little shy, and she asks whether it comes in other colors. For a few minutes the conversation is about something you chose, and you notice you're sitting up a little straighter.

Nobody is handing out awards. But it's a lovely feeling to have something that's yours noticed, and it tends to stay with you for the rest of the afternoon.

I can't promise it will happen. But a cardigan with real color and character gives a friend something to notice.

Colors that arrive the way you saw them

Choosing online should be the fun part. You scroll, stop on a pattern and start picturing it with your jeans.

The next question is fair: will the cardigan that arrives be the one you've been looking forward to?

That's where the practical details matter. Not to turn a lovely purchase into homework, but to help you choose it with fewer unanswered questions.

You'll find the things worth checking together below. Then you can get back to deciding which pattern you like best.

More than another layer over your jeans

Make the outfit yours A solid layer keeps the look simple. Vintage-inspired patterns make the cardigan the part you choose for its character.
Use what you already own Adds a layer to familiar clothes. Adds the interest to a plain top and jeans, without planning a new outfit.

Change how you wear it Depends on the design. Button-front options can be worn open over a top or fastened; check the style you choose.

A plain cardigan can be lovely. This is a difference in styling, not a claim of superior softness, fit or durability.

Why These Styles Belong Here

This isn't a collection built around one prescribed look. The point is to give you a choice worth making.

A vintage-inspired floral might be the one you picture over a white top. Another pattern might be just right with the dark pants you wear to dinner. The rest of the outfit stays familiar; the cardigan is where your taste comes in.

You don't need to love every design here. We'd rather you find one you'll be pleased to take off the hanger tomorrow.

And liking the pattern shouldn't mean taking everything else on faith. The practical side matters too: what the knit is made of, how the style is sized, and what happens if your order isn't right. Those answers should be clear before you buy.

A favorite first. Any savings second.

Start with the design you can picture wearing. If a current promotion applies, it should make a choice you already like more attractive—not ask you to settle for a cardigan simply because it is on sale.

Before you choose

What will the knit feel like? Check the composition and material description for the style you're considering. Skin sensitivity is personal, so a photograph alone cannot tell you how a knit will feel.

How do I choose the fit? Compare the available garment measurements with a cardigan you already enjoy wearing, allowing for the top underneath. If a measurement you need is missing, ask before ordering.

Will it work with my clothes? Start with one outfit you wear often. A plain top and jeans are a simple place to begin. Choose the pattern you would actually enjoy adding to that outfit.

What are the delivery and return terms? Read the store's current shipping and return policies before ordering, including delivery charges, return eligibility, deadlines and any return-shipping costs.

Can I ask a question first? Use the contact details provided by the store for questions about a particular style or your order.

When did my closet get so boring? I still don't have a tidy answer.

What I do know is that most of life happens on ordinary days: the errands, the visits, the lunch that's just lunch. Nobody dresses for those the way they would for a wedding, and they don't have to.

But you're allowed to enjoy what you're wearing on them. An ordinary day is reason enough.

Whenever you're ready, have a look at the patterns, and find the one that feels like you.
